After canceling two shows on their When You See Yourself Tour in order to say goodbye to their mother, Kings of Leon has revealed that Betty Ann Murphy has passed away. The news was announced on Instagram when the band's Nathan Followill shared a post dedicated to his mother. Murphy was the mother of Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill, and the aunt to Matthew Followill.

"My heart is broken," Nathan Followill shared in his Instagram post. My beautiful mother and biggest fan has passed on from this life and into the next. I will cherish the memories I made with her and her legacy will live on through me, my brothers and our beautiful families."

"I'm sure grief will hit me hardest when I least expect it but I have an amazing support system around me," Followill continued in his post. "Thank you for all the kind words and prayers. Hug your mother's extra tight tonight. I love you forever mama. Rest easy. Your Nathan."

The band announced the cancelation of their two shows on November 23 and revealed Betty Ann Murphy's dire medical diagnosis. They were originally slated to perform at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, and at Eddie Vedder's Ohana Festival before their cancelation.

"Just before taking the stage at The Forum we learned she took a turn for the worse," the band said in an earlier statement. "It was a hard show to get through, but you held us up that night in a way we will never forget."

The band went on to say that they flew home after the show, and would remain by their mother's side until she passed. The band had a few more performances scheduled for their When You See Yourself Tour and has not yet provided any updates about the remaining dates as they spend time with their families.
