In Tampa, Florida, Barbara Baker, a bus driver with the Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART), is being celebrated as a hero for reuniting a lost child with his mother. During her shift, Baker spotted a young boy wandering alone on a busy road, still wearing his pajamas. Without hesitation, she pulled over, exited the bus, and brought the child to safety.
Baker then contacted HART operations, who alerted the Tampa Police Department. Officers arrived promptly and began knocking on doors in the neighborhood. After about 20 minutes, they successfully located the young boy's mother, reuniting the family.
Scott Drainville, HART CEO, praised Baker, stating, "This is a powerful reminder that our operators do far more than drive buses — they also serve as guardians of the community every single day."
“Operator Baker’s courage and attentiveness exemplify the dedication and heart that define our team," he added.
HART released surveillance video of the incident along with a statement, highlighting Baker's heroism.
“This incident highlights the vital role they play in protecting and serving the residents and visitors of Hillsborough County,” HART said. “Well done, Operator Baker — your heroism inspires us all!”
