Legendary Capricorn Studio To Re-Open In Macon

I love a good comeback story-especially when it involves music. Capricorn Studios was purchased by the late Phil Walden with his brother Alan Walden and Otis Redding in 1967 and opened two years later. Everyone from Allman Brothers to Marshall Tucker Band recorded there but then if fell off the map and has been vacant for years. The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation placed the building on its “Places in Peril” list in 2010.

But it has been reborn! The newly named Mercer Music at Capricorn will be a 20,000-square-foot complex that will house brand new studios and spotlight artifacts and exhibits of Capricorn and Macon’s music history plus a 24/7 “music incubator” – 13 rehearsal rooms to foster those up and coming. They expect to open by the en of the year.

If you have a band-you might want to make a trip to Macon next year...
